Likhaya by Virlanie

Likhaya is Virlanie’s social entrepreneurship brand. Our goal is to seek out a social impact: to give to street mothers and young adults the capabilities and opportunities for inclusive empowerment so they can grow, earn, and develop their families, selves, and communities. We aim to make their integration into society successful by providing them a sustainable income and valuable professional experience.
Street mothers and young adults are the main actors of Likhaya’s story. They are from partner indigent communities in Quiapo and Tondo – who are trained and given opportunities through Virlanie’s iLEAD Open Day Center for Education and Training and Mobile Unit.

They produce a wide range of bags and jewelleries made with unique designs and the best quality. Not only Likhaya is socially responsible but also environmental friendly since the jewelleries are made from upcycled magazine.

The profit from the products enable the workers to invest in their future, for example by buying an accommodation or creating their own business. A part of the gains also supports Virlanie to reduce cost so it can invest in other social programs which not only train the mothers but support their children’s education as well, thus creates social sustainability in the community and their families.

“Virlanie change my life because I learned more skills in sewing. I used to only make 40 pesos a day (less than one 1$). Now I can help my family to be more successful because I learned to sew bags”

Rosalinda Fajardo,

Mother, and iLead ODC-ET trainee

Therefore, to be an ethical and sustainable brand, we are mixing fashion and fair trade by defending our core values, where our name comes from:
LIKHA (create),
– SAYA (happiness),
– KAYA (to ability or able),
– LAYA (freedom),
– PAMILYA (family).
