Ryan runs for the kids of Virlanie

Last April 29, 2019, Ryan Charland, CEO of Manulife Philippines raced the historical Boston Marathon to raise funds for the children of Virlanie Foundation, Inc. His cause was supported by 91 givers through GavaGives and was able to raise $19,165.73 for the benefit of Virlanie’s Babies and Toddlers Home (BTH).

Ryan has been with Manulife Philippines since 2014 after being a regional Chief Risk Officer in Manulife Hong Kong and is one of the most active and major donors of Virlanie Foundation. ” I truly believe that this organization (Virlanie) is doing exceptional work in helping these kids… I am helping bring back the smiles and secure better futures for the Virlanie Foundation kids.” said Ryan.

Virlanie’s Babies and Toddlers Home

Virlanie Foundation takes care of underprivileged children– those were surrendered, abandoned, neglected and those with special needs. Young children from 0-3 years old are housed in Virlanie’s Babies and Toddlers Home. One of the beneficiaries of Ryan’s campaign is Mike. He has been with Virlanie since he was one year old. Now three, Mike was diagnosed with hearing loss on his left ear and a language-based learning disability where, he has delays in learning new words hence, affecting his school performance.

Mike was given therapy sessions to improve his condition. According to Mike’s therapists, he was responding positively and is a fast learner. As part of the holistic approach in Virlanie homes, kids like Mike are given health and education services.

With the help of Ryan’s fundraising campaign, Virlanie can purchase Mike’s hearing aid and continue his therapy session for his continuous improvement.

BTH operates in a tight budget to cater to the needs of 30 children and pay for the salaries of the employees taking care of them.

Virlanie Foundation recognizes the efforts of Ryan with his initiative in racing the Boston Marathon for the benefit of the BTH. With his heartful act of kindness, the challenges of Virlanie’s BTH will gradually be addressed.
