1 September 2013 – With more than 2, 800 registered runners, the 2nd leg of the Battle of the Sexes organized by the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, in collaboration with RunRio Inc., was more than a success. For the second time around, Sofitel, being a long-time supporter of Virlanie Foundation, dedicated the for our children.
During the race proper, Dominique Lemay initiated the run with a gunshot at exactly 5:45am (Philippine Standard Time) for the women in the 5K race category. Coach Rio, a passionate runner and a well-known running coach in the Philippines, was also present in the running track to give runners the last push they need to reach the finish line.
The Virlanie Founder and President Dominique Lemay, together with the staff, volunteers, and children joined the crowd and promoted the foundation as they were given complimentary tickets and race kits courtesy of Sofitel while Citibank sponsored the registration fees of the rest of the staff and children.
After the heart-pumping run, the participants cooled down and were given complimentary products and services from the event sponsors. The Virlanie Choir also serenaded the crowd with their angelic versions of popular songs like Mariah Carey’s “When You Believe”.
In March 2013, Sofitel raised almost PhP 750,000 during the 1st leg of the Battle of the Sexes which was used to buy a brand new Virlanie van for the transportation of our children. The details on the turnover of the funds raised for the 2nd leg of the race are yet to be announced.
