Virlanie Foundation opened First Bloom last May 17 at the Gallery by the Garden in Legaspi Village. The exhibit showcases 24 different artworks of the all-female beneficiaries of Virlanie’s Elizabeth Home.
Thanks to the volunteering efforts of Ms. Emilia Monroy, an internationally acclaimed artist, and the generous Ms. Tricia Jimenez, the girls learned finger-painting techniques through a workshop that started in March and ended in May. These sessions helped them channel their thoughts and feelings into moving visual pieces. They were not only learning experiences for the girls, but also therapy that helped them through the difficult experiences they have had.
The pieces are acrylic on canvas, and coloured pencil on paper with patterns that are sure to inspire its audience. Some are combined into collage pieces that can be perfect home decorations, as well as constant reminders of creativity and hope. The exhibit will run until June 30 and each piece sold will benefit the mission of Virlanie Foundation to continue empowering children towards a brighter future.
