Visitors from the Accor Group and Sofitel Luxury Hotels visited Virlanie Foundation Wednesday, 21st April 2010.
General managers from SE Asia and Australasia, regional staff from Bangkok and the general manager and staff from Sofitel Philippine Plaza toured five of Virlanie’s homes in Makati.
Closely linked to Virlanie, Sofitel Philippine Plaza general manager Goran Aleks proudly introduced his colleagues to the Foundation’s children and staff.
Children and staff from the homes entertained the visitors with song and dance routines and with musical performances. Children and visitors joined in games too. Virlanie’s social workers and houseparents explained the working of each home and how the Foundation takes care of the children.
Despite temperatures in the upper 30s centigrade, visitors met with street children in the Drop-In Center, with Virlanie teenagers in Gabay Buhay Home, with young mothers and their babies in Mother and Child Home, with special children in Aime Home and with the youngsters of Masaya Home.
Accor, Sofitel and Virlanie work together for the care and betterment of street children; their efforts now include ‘Reach to Teach’ - a tutoring program bringing together Sofitel ‘ambassadors’ and Virlanie children.
Virlanie Foundation has been caring for street children in Manila since its founding in1992 by Frenchman Dominique Lemay. In that time, 12,000 have been helped by the Foundation that is currently home to 240 children.
