The Income Generating Program

Virlanie Foundation finds ever more ingenious ways to enhance its children's creative talents as well as develop their concentration, discipline, maturity, understanding of the requirements of honest work and the value of money.

The Income Generating Program IGP was started in 2003 with just this purpose. The program also equips them with the skills and techniques needed to express their own ideas. More over they learn teamwork, focus and responsibility. Some of the activities also involve young mothers and some parents.

The children gain pride and self-esteem for the work that they do. When you buy from Virlanie, you support marginalized children and families. Your purchases empower them and helps them become self sufficient and contributing, productive members of society.

Mindful of the delicate balance between learning, play and work, the activities strictly adhere to regulations of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The children taking part work work a maximum of six hours a week on the different activities. Partner communities who work with children assign trained social workers to supervise production.

Hand-painted t-shirts

This project is specific to the Drop-In Center, one of Virlanie’s homes for young children. Serving as a creative outlet for children adjusting to a new environment, the children are taught by a local artist how to paint, choose good color combinations, and execute proper brush strokes.

To encourage their participation and foster their Education, the children can imagine, propose and create new designs. Most focus on Filipino way of life : Jeepney, animals, children games… For 2012, a new line of t-shirts will be soon available. The children paint the shirts themselves. A large variety of t-shirts (size, color, type, shape) is available - no two are the same. That’s the uniqueness of hand-painted shirts! Moreover, the paintings are durable and can withstand washing. The children can also customized t-shirts.
