NGOs offer justice system options over incarceration for CICL

Posted on 01/26/2010 in General News & Events

The Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA), Association Compassion Asian Youth (ACAY), Educational Research and Development Assistance (ERDA), the Embassy of France in the Philippines, Rotary Club of San Francisco Del Monte and Virlanie Foundation met at the Forum on Children in Conflict with the Law, December 3, 2009, at the Court of Appeals Auditorium, Manila.

During the forum sponsored by the French Embassy and co-organized by Virlanie Foundation, non-profit organizations (NPOs) like Father Tritz’s ERDA Foundation and the Association Compassion Asian Youth presented their programs to prosecutors and judges. The aim: invite the judges to consider releasing Children in Conflict with the Law to the NPOs. These NPOs, like Virlanie Foundation have programs that are designed to assist and support children / young adults – the majority coming from the streets or disadvantaged families.

The NPOs present, including Virlanie Foundation, hope that the one-day forum will increase awareness of their services in handling CICL cases.
